First few days
The culture shock I thought I would not experience
18.01.2012
Until these last few days, we've been on vacation. Traveling to Madrid, Toledo and Segovia gave me an idea of what I thought this semester will be like, it unfortunately did not prepare me for much outside of feeling like an american. So many things to still get accustomed too. Luckily there are people here from the semester before that have been assuring us that we only need a week or so to get used to everything; seeing as how they have survived i'm convinced that ill survive too. After this week I will have a regular schedule, have my school stuff figured out and will be able to get around without pulling out a map.
Some funny things I've heard:
"Las muchachas americanas siempre llevan chongas pequenas y aman chocolate."
"All american girls wear small underwear and love their chocolate"
- when asking my host mom if she's sure she wants to wash my underwear
"Rubia, no caiga en la cara, que parece que te cae mucho."
"Blonde, don't fall on your face, you look like you fall a lot."
-When I asked if I was going up the right set of stairs on the metro.
"GOD DAMN I'M HANGRY"
(Hungry & angry)
"Do you think Basque people think we smell like candy?"
"Como se dice 'I don't know how to flush your toilet?"
Meant to write before, was having too much fun. I hope to keep this up.
Tata for now.
-Rubia
